Kirk Brown



Kirk Brown, pianist/keyboardist/songwriter, has been involved on the music scene professionally for over thirty-five years.  He has worked with musicians, graphic artists, dancers, poets, and the like.  A student at the Chicago School of Music as a child, Kirk played recitals solo & duo piano.


Professionally, Kirk began working with Malachi Thompson in the early seventies, until Malachi's transition in 2006, as a member of his Freebop Band. Some of the more recognized artists Kirk has worked with are: the late, great saxophonist, comedian, teacher, and innovator, Eddie Harris; master saxophonist Gary Bartz, avante-gard saxophonist, New Orleans' Kidd Jordan; John Coltrane's driving drummer, Elvin Jones; trumpet/historian, Wynton Marsalis; many members of the AACM(Don Moye, Henry Threadgill, Muhal Richard Abrams big band & more); guitarist, Phil Upchurch, and the Muntu Dance Theatre to name a few.  Currently Kirk is working with brother Ari Brown, one of the premier saxophone players in the world.  Kikrk's company, Kirk's Works, provides a variety of musical services including recording and songwriting.
